The first one or two sessions consist of discussing with you whether CBT is the appropriate
therapy for you. Also whether you feel comfortable with me. By listening to your
concerns about your life, gathering information and setting goals, together we will
develop a treatment plan.
Sessions start with us agreeing an agenda about what significant issues we need to
explore. We will measure progress towards your goals.
Link work is an essential element of CBT linking up the therapy sessions and by providing
opportunities for you to test out different behaviours and ways of thinking and being.
This could be completing a thought sheet, diary or by doing something different in
relation to a specific situation and by monitoring how you thought and felt about
Link work needs to be meaningful, agreed with you and set at each session.
The emphasis of each session is to work with you and your concerns a step at a time,
by breaking them down into manageable parts.
Therapy sessions are private however should issues arise which may put your health
and safety or that of others at risk, it may be necessary to approach another agency
i.e. GP. This would be discussed with you in the first instance.
